as I promised in my last message, I now send yoy information on
earlier Niskanen ancestors. Paavo Niskanen has researched old tax
records of eastern Finland and his researches on Niskanen family has
also published in the 1970's. I think that these publications are
nowadays available only in some Finnish libraries.

The oldest Niskanen ancestor in his research was Johan Niskainen
whose origin is not known. Johan had four sons, who lived in
Lammassalo in Pielavesi parish. According to Paavo Niskanens research
one of them, Lauri Niskanen moved to Pihtipudas approximately in the
year 1557. I think, that this Lauri Niskanen is ancestor of Niskanen
family lived in Pihtipudas and Viitasaari parishes.

I found one figure on earlier Niskanen ancestors from Paavo
Niskanens research. I have translated a part of it in english, I drew
it again and saved the file in TIF format. I send it you here as
attachment. Hopefully you can read it. If not, let me know, so I will
try to send it to you in another format or in text file.

Because of most of younger
descendants is still living, I left them out from this file. However,
I have also lot of information on descendants of some of them
up to the present time. If you are interested some Niskanen lines
included in the file, I think that I could give you also
additional information on the later generations of these lines.

I think that just via census and tax records it is perhaps possible
to trace earlier Niskanen ancestors. According to some researches
based on tax records the first Niskanen came to Pihtipudas from
Pielavesi parish (from eastern Finland) in the middle of 16th
century. Pihtipudas was a part of Viitasaari at that time. The name
of this man was Lauri Niskanen and I think that most of Niskanen
named people living in Pihtipudas and Viitasaari are descendants of
that man. The father and brothers of Lauri are also known. I can
check their names and inform you on them later.

My aim has also been to find out my possible ancestors between Lauri
Niskanen and Matti Niskanen over the period from 1550 to 1680,
but until now I haven't got time enough to do that.
