Notes for Petter Lyra
Petrus Lyra (b 1592 in Hauho Parish) is the furthest back I have.
>Henricus>Pal>Henrik>Josef>Adam>Josef>Johan>Paavo is the line (Paavo was
b. in 1831). I have their wives names but the matrilineal lines get
extinguished at each generation. If you have these Lyras, would you be
able to flesh out any of the matrilineal lines? That would be cool. Let
me know. I can email a GEDCOM with what I have if you'd like to look.

Thanks for the help.

Unto Lyyra suggests the theory, that of German Farnz (Franz?) Böhlimiscin, that the name is of French origin, brought in by a Nicolaus, a Franciscan brother (monk), who, himself was not allowed to have biological progeny. The surname is known in 1400-1600 in Koln and Frankfurt and in the 1600’s in Sweden

David,

we have two geneological "Bibles" in Finland: the other is Sursillin suku - Genealogia Sursilliana renewed and edited by Eero Kojonen, the other one is Sukukirja I-II by Axel Bergholm. Both of them contain information of Lyra family.

"The ancient roots of Lyra family are unknown. The first persons, mainly preasts, with that name were registered during the 17th century in Häme (Tavastland) and northern parts of Savo (Savolax)." A small introduction to the family history by Bergholm (translated by me).

The first known Lyra was the vicar of Hauho 1620-1630?, Petrus Lyra who had tree sons Henricus, Martinus and Petrus.

Henricus was nominated the vicar of Pieksämäki 1656 and he died 1664. "Your" Henrik was a sonson to Henricus and he worked as a verger in Pieksämäki. He and his wife Emerentia got six children.
"My" Daniel was the sonson of Martinus. Daniel was a corpral and lived in Jämsä. He was married to Kristina Stolpe 1722 and they had fourchildren.
