Firstly, thank you for writing a great book about all the people in Pieksämäki.
Over four years ago we were corresponding and wondering, who might have been
the parents of my ancestor, Maria Leikas (b. about 1750, she was married with
Johan Larss. Janhunen in Pieksämäki, Hällimäki). You sent me ideas and
information about some possible Marias, but I could not connect them with my
family.
A few months ago I started to form my ancestors' families in my computer files
by looking for sisters and brothers to my ancestors, chronologically. In my
list, I reached Maria Leikas a couple of days ago thinking of ignoring her
family, because I didn't have any information about them.
Suddenly, for some reason, I remembered seeing already in 2003 one Leikas
family in a church book (Pieksämäki RK 1757-1770, p. 385) quite near the
Janhunens' (p. 383) in Hällinmäki. I studied the names again and filled up the
fields in the HISKI-files (www.genealogia.fi <http://www.genealogia.fi>;) by
giving a surname Pauk* to a child's mother and L* for the father.
Now, I think, I may have found Maria. She was born on the 10th of Oct. 1750.
Her parents were soldier Johan Leusten (alias Leiste(i)n alias Leikas) and Anna
Paukkonen in Hällinmäki. According to HISKI, they had also children called
Carin, Helena, Johannes and Walborg as you have mentioned in your book. In
addition, HISKI gives the following children Anna, Nils (the 1st son) and Adam
(Adam's mother is given as Anna Pauckoin).
