Notes for Onni August Turpeinen
Thank you so much. This is getting more and more interesting. In your data (the alphabetical order list) I noticed that the son Samuel of the patriarch Samuel died in "pastoratets torp" in Pieksämäki. Likewise, Pöyhölä 2 where some of the family members lived was somehow connected to Frilander family that is known to have worked for the church.

This might mean that Turpeinens have had access to at least some kind of education already then, even though the school system was not that advanced at the time. It might also explain the appreciation for education that runs in our family even today.

Onni Turpeinen, the son of August and, started a company called Orion, the biggest pharmaceutical producer in Finland today. His son Osmo, my grandfather, was a scientist that dedicated his life for fighting against heart diseases and became internationally known for his research concerning nutrition. Some of us in the family have always been wondering that how on earth you can have people like this coming from the woods of Pieksämäki...

What I plan to do next is to try to find out if the Turpeinen men in my father line owned their farms or if they worked there/rented them and how they coped during the rough times with bad crops, famine, diseases and wars.

Your work has helped me very much in many ways. In case you visit Finland sometime in the future, I would be very happy to take you to lunch or dinner.

Kind regards,

Tiina
