Thomas Biörman / Karhu and Lisa Fält moved from Kalvola to Rautalampi in 1779. They can be found in Rautalampi household records (rippikirja) 1773-80 on page 159 (SSHY image 168) in the household of his eponymous father, who was a croft farmer (torppari) in Kiesimä (or Kiesmä, Kiesmäki) village, about 23 km NW of Rautalampi main village. - Lisa is always noted as Thomaedotter, never as Fält in Rautalampi.

HisKi finds six children born to Thomas and Lisa in Rautalampi from 1780 to 1802.

Thomas’s birth year is wrong in the record mentioned above. According to HisKi, he was born on 5 Aug 1752 to bridge warden (brofogden) Thomas and Susanna Kämpatar [Kempas, Kemppainen] in Kiesmä.

Rk 1781-94 p 176 (im. 200) Kiesmäki

An anecdote about a descendant of Thomas and Lisa. Their son Gustaf, b. 1797, had a son named Zachris (Sakari) is a late marriage. Sakari was born in 1861, so there was a temporal distance of 109 years btw him and his grandfather Thomas. Sakari became an organist and worked for decades in the parish of Tuusula, north of Helsinki. He changed his surname to Soinne, which sounded more musical than Karhu. (‘Sointu’ means a chord.) Sibelius’s home Ainola was also in Tuusula, and these musical characters became acquainted. Sakari Soinne worked as Sibelius’s piano tuner.

Maarit
